Established in 2001 on a vacant city property, the Pacific and Sixth Community Garden is a small patch of green on busy Pacific Avenue. The north wall hosts a land-to-sea tile mural by Steve Elicker and Joseph Giri, based on children’s drawings of sea life. The Garden received a facelift in 2011 with the help of a Neighborhood Improvement Project Grant, with rebuilt beds and a whimsical red caterpillar sculpture on the fence. Though most of the garden plots are reserved for senior citizens at nearby Park Pacific Tower, several are open to the greater public. There is a waiting list.
